Data Collection

Basic information

We log usage of the site using standard web server logs. This lets us see what word is being searched and on what site it was found. It also tells us what type of browser you are using and what preferences you have set with us. It does not tell us who you are, nor what specific page you were reading. This information is used for Web site and system administration, and for research and development and is not provided to others without privacy protection.

Cookies

At the user's option, we will collect HTTP cookies, which allows us to determine your preferences and whether you are using the free or the full version. Cookies are also used to determine the version of the software you are using. If you block the use of cookies, some features may stop working.

Database logging

The LookWAYup application stores a subset of the search terms used, and most particularly those terms that were looked up but not found. These terms are collected in a relational database for the analysis of patterns. This helps us to add terms to the dictionary and improve the spelling correction programs. Web site owners can also see a summary of what words were looked up on their site.

Mailing registration

This may be used to contact visitors when their license expires and to transmit news and information related to LookWAYup to those who opt for it.

Policy Evaluation

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 will evaluate this site's "compact policy" before accepting a cookie. If the "webmaster version" of LookWAYup is used by a site, LookWAYup preferences may be considered a persistent third-party cookie. This compact policy is considered satisfactory according to the rules defined by Internet Explorer 6.
